I agree it does seem like a long time, but considering that the shooting had already stopped I'm not sure it's a big deal. I don't believe it would've been anywhere near as long if the shooting was still going on.

When something first happens everyone wants to know why. As time passes you realize it doesn't really matter. If it was found out it was a brain tumor that made him flip out would that ease the pain of losing a loved one?
