Got approved last week with cancelled CC and a few days later they adjusted the reservation to a complimentary night.

This is weird. After getting the cancellation email from the hotel yesterday, today i recieved this email from the IHG BRG department.

Hope this email finds you well.
Please be informed that we will reimburse the amount paid via funds transfer in order for us to fulfill the BPG promise of providing the first night free to your reservation. You can expect to receive payment in four to six weeks after your stay.

Truly weird. I would never give out my bank info. The one time that I had an issue (CP eilat refused to accept my BRG letter...) they sent me a check in the mail after the stay

Interesting....One time when I BRG'd the CP Eilat, I got an email directly from the some Arab guy at the hotel (I think he's the night manager or something) asking in bad Hebrew that I email him to talk about my free night request.

Of course I completely ignored the whole thing since it's non of his business and I had no problem checking in.

Data point: submitted BRG request for an Intercontinental I had booked non-refundable IHG Your Rate.  I found a lower all-in price for the same room, same terms at a major OTA and submitted the BRG.

Only took about 4 hours to receive an approval.  Major improvement!

I'd be happy to discuss the opportunity via PM -- it's still available (that is, unless Dan would be gracious enough to give me my first HT if I disclose it to the general public  )

Is there any basis for a claim with IHG if I found an identical rate/room type, however the competing web site offers a more liberal cancellation policy?  I'm assuming no, but would like to confirm.
