That's the float that shuts the fill valve on/off. Some have a hole top to bottom. Should not have any other hole or it will fill with water and then fill valve will never shut off and water will run all the time.
Correct that's exactly what happened

ETA: When the water stops how close is the water level to the top of the overflow tube? The tube in the middle of the toilet.

A hair away

You should adjust it a little lower as that might be your problem. These fill valves are not precision instruments.

Thank you, I wrote a hair away out of memory, after checking I noticed it overflows a drop and then stops, it definitely needs adjustment

Weird boiler issue.
My hot water is heated through the boiler.
Randomly my boiler wont fire up to heat the water. The boiler is on but no fire. Only way to fix it is to turn the boiler off and on.

When I turn the temp down on the hot water tank to turn off the boiler and then back on, it doesn’t fix it. Boiler will go on but no fire. I have to turn the boiler off/on and it’s fixed.
Can’t find a pattern to what’s causing it.

If anyone has any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

O ring is what needs to be removed

seems like a common issue

There's an O ring to help center the button so it's not wobbly..this O ring can be removed to free up the button.

Perhaps a design flaw. No matter. There is a really easy way to keep it working perfectly, with no disassembly. LiquiFix, a non-toxic, food-safe lubricant. I've been using it for a couple of months. A drizzle around the button, either depressed or not, give the button a couple of pushes, then all is well. Do wipe the area, as the button will be really slippery after application. Good luck! see less

I won't live without one of these ever again. I have installed one in my last two houses and you will use this more than you think. There is one flaw in this unit. When you push the button down for hot water it would often stick in the down position and water would continue to run.The problem is the o-ring around button. it's too fat and it hinders button movement. I took it off and solved the problem. But it is a stupid design flaw.

That gets it to work but that is not fixing it. Food grade lubricant is what is needed and probably a new o-ring.

Hopefully, this is a good place to post this.

My gas water heater is 11 years old it has a Honeywell gas control valve.
I`m getting five flashes which means there is sensor failure.

A plumber recommended getting a new water heater.
Any tricks for a simple DIY project? (I already tried reset it etc)

Thanks!

Probably just gotta change the valve, check the exact model and see what it entails.

I would like to know what sensor failure is. Thermocouple on some new units are referred to as flame sensor. If that is the case some sandpaper might be all it needs.
