AA fee for award flights within 21 days

Anyone know how to get around the $75 fee for booking award flights within 21 days?

Thanks. I dont fly often at all.  Just looking for a one way tix from lax to ord next week.  want to go to a hockey game.  I found on ba ord to lax but not back. aa has the flight but their fees are nuts
