Do any ESCOs offer guaranteed or capped rates/discounts?
Yes, many ESCO's offer fixed rates. For gas, North Energy offers amazing 6 month fixed rates.
You can check the rates of all ESCO's
here.
Just beware of companies like Ambit where you're eyes pop out when you see they're "amazingly low low rates"..
Then take a look at the "comments" column where you're bound to see some thing like "Introductory rate for first month" or "monthly service fee" etc. etc. Don't be fooled (like I was).
Also don't forget to check the "minimum term" and "cancellation fee", you shouldn't be signing up with anyone who has either of those.
Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with any ESCO whomsoever.
Ambit guarantees that they will be at least 1% lower than con-ed. Yes. Ambit doesn't offer a fixed rate in NY, they offer a fixed discount of at least 1% .
They don't specify rates bec they never know what con-ed will charge. Its just at least 1% cheaper.
Total BS!
Do you have any first hand knowledge of this?
Yes, I can show you the bills. They were not only not cheaper than ConEd, they were more expensive. Bunch of liars.
Please don't be insulted if you or one of your friends are an Ambit agent, _____ shouldn't be promoting a scam.
In any case, 1% savings is better than >1% savings during winter months and rates being jacked up in the summer. (E.g. veridian, energy plus, etc)
Right, that's why you shouldn't go with Ambit. As far as Energy Plus, I haven't made the calculation if its worth going with their outrageous rates (way more than most others, makes no sense) for two months just to get 20k(?)/25k Starwood points.
