aa award routing q

i'm looking to book an aa award tick from tlv-nyc stop then nyc-mia.   i know normally they allow a stopover in the north american gateway city, but i read on ft that it's only between "North America and Europe, India, Asia, and Central / South America".     does anyone know any workaround to get the stopover on a tick from tlv?         alternatively, if i book it as a rt, would it then be allowed?    thanks.

great, thanks.         any benefits booking the trip as two ow's instead of rt?           i highly doubt there will be any need for changes once travel begins so in terms of that i don't think i need it.
