I drink more than that with my pizza!
Every day? And if you dont have it, do you need it as your vice?

Not every day and I can quit anytime I want to. I just don't want to.
I go to Vegas a lot and some might think I have a gambling problem. The same thing applies. I can quit but see no need to.
I just found a new supply of forks!

He said every day. And he keeps a journal of slips. And, and...and.

There are many functioning addicts out there. It doesn't mean they're not an addict. It just means the problem is not as bad as it could be. No 12-step program will tell you you are an addict. All they will tell you is if you believe you're an addict this is how we stopped. Sometimes if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck... it's obvious to everyone but the Addict.

You have 100% confidence in the program and we all understand that. You have to understand there are other things that work for different individuals.

Exactly. Its only a half bottle of wine a day habit with monthly binges and semi-annual or tri-annual blackouts. Sound like he has it under control and its a very healthy activity (I mean "vice"). Time will tell. Maybe a blackout gone bad. Maybe a binge with a DUI.

Jon Hajdu gifted me a breathalyzer, my therapist did tell me that drunk driving is an indication that you have a drinking problem. I dont do it anymore

I can quit too, but why would I? Same thing, unless they point out a health or behaviour issue .

The word addiction is broadly and loosely given out, I was addicted to coffee and would kill you if you took my coffee away.. but I gave it up for tea instead

I would use the word "obsession" for you. I seen your post where you bring your own wine to the restaurant. An addict would drink anything.  :)

Obsessive compulsive much?

Only he can decide if hes an addict. I see addictive behaviors. I also see he seems to be functioning ok. If it gets worse he addresses it in his own way. If it works for him, more power. For most, this behavior may go on for a long time before it gets monotonous and the stakes need to be raised to escape from whatever reality is causing this compunction to "need" wine. No one needs wine to function or get through a day.

Not me, I would go dry than drink bad wine...

then there's pruno

http://www.lamag.com/drinkrecipes/how-to-make-prison-wine-the-craft-version/

“Pruno is probably the last thing you’d ever want to drink,” explained former Caña Rum Bar bartender Nick Crouch. He admits that as a mixed-up kid he had gone to jail 23 times, and has had plenty of experience with making prison wine a.k.a. Pruno (a name derived from its once popular ingredient, prunes). Considering that the jailhouse hooch is fermented fruit juice made from moldy bread, oranges, a ton of sugar; kept warm in showers with convicts; and then strained through a used sock, well, Crouch may be right.

But even though its flavor is reminiscent of Mad Dog 20/20 and “is like drinking the nastiest sweet and sour margarita but with bread in there and orange,” according to Crouch, it does the job of getting you drunk and is the perfect way to pass a couple hours in the yard.

Sure is
No self-respecting addict would take it in pill form.
