UPS Authorized Outlet Charging Fee to Return a Package
« on: November 03, 2017, 02:12:56 PM »
There is a shipping center in Crown Heights that charges a $1 fee to drop-off a prepaid RS UPS packages. I'm trying to understand if this is against the contract they have with UPS as it states on UPS.com "All return packages can be given to any UPS driver or taken to any location of The UPS Store®, a UPS Drop Box, a UPS Customer Center, any Staples® location, or any UPS Authorized Shipping Outlet. There is no charge to drop off a prepaid return package."

Most shipping centers do not charge for UPS packages, only for USPS since they don't get any $ from USPS for the service, however this is the first time I've been asked to pay for a UPS package that they are being compensated for by UPS anyway.

Anyone have any insight into this?

Saw it in a few shipping centers in BP as well.

search for UPS "access point" drop offs there should be free

I'm curious how much they got from UPS for each package dropped off?

It should be free, many times I have some packages not ready when my UPS driver stops buy daily, I just drop them at any UPS auth. center, never paid a penny.

Yep, noticed it on Ave M as well, bad look for us, almost definitely against their contract, and doesn't make sense as they do get about a $1 -negotiable based on volume, ground/air, etc

Unless they taped it up for you and helped out, that would be the legal (UPS wise) way to charge you, and probably the reason why they charge it, is bec of too many "Mrs Blanks" coming in 3x week with amazon and zappos, always open packages asking about return policy for 30 minutes, making you tape it up, wasting everyone's time, and not spending any money

But ya if it is a real drop off, as in just drop off should not pay

It is a pain! my wife once had to buy a ten dollar item in that store because she didn't have any cash. But they do not charge for FedEx and UPS now picks up for free if you have a business account that was free to open (HT: DD). USPS is the only real problem- and they are a problem.

(referencing the CH location)

Arnd 6 years ago I went to drop off a package at the above mentioned CH location, and saw the UPS truck in front of the store. I tried giving it directly to the driver to save the $1, but he refused, telling me I need to drop it off in the store.

Yup, that store is a pain as they charge for UPS. Until I cam to NY I have never heard of anyone charging to drop off any box be it USPS, UPS, or Fedex.

Wow. That is crazy. I wonder if there is anyway to have UPS investigate this "policy", since apparently it's against their terms.

In Lakewood by GG plaza the authorized usps place charges a dollar for ups packages. Not sure if it's an official ups drop off location. (Pretty shady place imo)

Why wouldn't you be able to? They're not a court or legal authorities.
