Shabbos Tips: Stay at Hotel Condado it is about a 3 minute walk from the shul (local community), bear in mind there is no eruv, so you will need to either leave the room open or make some arrangement with the hotel, they do not offer keys (or have that option at all)

Activities: Toledo - a day trip from Madrid to see 2 old Shuls. Can hire a tour guide, Rabbi Hanoka (info@jewishtoledotour.com), which is not cheap, or can take a train on your own. 1 of the Shuls (El Transito) is closed on Mondays. @Yehuda went on a day when that Shul was closed, and the other Shul was really just an empty room and seemed like a Christian organization now runs the center. Without a tour guide, it was hard to get anything Jewish out of our trip (other than an antique store that had some Judaica). But, people who have taken the tour (discussed in the thread) have said it was great! Recommended to go with a tour or not go at all (and ensure to go on a day when both are open!). Report in the thread that the sometimes-closed Shul has audio headsets for use, so that would help. If going alone, you can research the Jewish places at the link HERE

Would probably be difficult to pickpocket in that case,   but what's with your phone and camera, are you just traveling with your wallet?
My phone is in the same pocket as my wallet (it's very thin). My camera is in a case in my hand with the wrist strap around my wrist. Does that seem safe?

My father was once in a Taxi in Sao Paulo, my father kept his hands out the window, the drive yelled, pull your hand in!  Thugs can chop your hands off in order to steal your watch.

So, you never know how well trained and talented these pickpocketers can be, some can outright Violently Rob you, which I almost experienced while strolling in the side streets off La Rambla in the night hours.

Not trying to scare you, just warning to be vigilant.

Barcelona is not dangerous, but be aware, Barcelona has the most Talented Pickpocketers walking the same streets as you are and know how to ID a tourist

Thanks for the tips. FWIW I have been told many times that I don't look like a tourist, at least an American tourist, in Europe. Maybe because I'm fluent in Spanish and don't act/dress like a typical tourist, idk. Either way thanks for the pointers.

The non-Chabad Shul had a decent Minyan during the week, so I imagine they get a Minyan on Shabbos.

So is there a consensus as to the kashrus of the restaurant in Madrid? Is there someone knowledgable who can be asked?

Very curious. Did you ask the chabad rabbi in Barcelona about that?

cordoba doesnt require a tour guide in my opinion. you can walk 15 minutes from the train station to the alcazar, roman Bridge, Synagoga, etc... easy to take the bus also for a few euros which runs around the main tourist sites.
