Activities: Toledo - a day trip from Madrid to see 2 old Shuls. Can hire a tour guide (his contact info is somewhere in the thread), which is not cheap, or can take a train on your own. 1 of the Shuls (El Transito) is closed on Mondays. @Yehuda went on a day when that Shul was closed, and the other Shul was really just an empty room and seemed like a Christian organization now runs the center. Without a tour guide, it was hard to get anything Jewish out of our trip (other than an antique store that had some Judaica). But, people who have taken the tour (discussed in the thread) have said it was great! Recommended to go with a tour or not go at all (and ensure to go on a day when both are open!). Report in the thread that the sometimes-closed Shul has audio headsets for use, so that would help.

Downtown Athens I would say. I wasn't too enamored although plenty of people are so it could just be me. But if ease of access to maccabi is what you're looking for then that's the place to be.
Hmm, I haven't been to Athens, just Rome, London, Venice, & Zurich, Florence in Europe. Another thing we want is easy access to the airport. I know there's a bus that goes directly, but it seems like both neighborhoods have good access.

I didn't find La Ramblas sleazy or a not-nice neighborhood. It's one long strip of pedestrian mall. The stores are classic, the booths in the street are just as "sleazy" as a booth in NYC.

Where would you recommend? Jewish Barcelona only lists Maccabi.

Delicius and the dairy place are both 10x better than Maccabi and the Mashgiach actually knows what he's doing
What's the name of the dairy place? I'd like that better anyway.

You've ranked on the Mashgiach at this place for quite some time. When was the last time you went into a restaurant and the Mashgiach wasn't just some 20-year old bum who couldn't get a better job?

What about this review?
Weird, I was there this past March. Also, there is a review from September,  so I guess PUTPAC tomorrow to find out if they are still around.

Or call chabad and ask. That's what I did

The more I've looked the more I've come to the conclusion that * ratings mean next to nothing. Some 4* hotels look old and nasty while others look nice.  Same with 5* places.

I really wanted to do Priceline NYOP, but now I'm nervous that's not such a good idea. Could be we get a nice place, but I don't want to end up in a dump.

Now I'm not sure what to do. I guess airbnb is an option, but we'll be arriving late and I wasn't sure how that would work. Le Meridien is also an option, but not the best use of points. Any ideas?

I apologize I mixed up Maccabi and Shalom, I have never been to Maccabi.

Unless the restaurant is under a reputable Hashgacha I have never eaten at a restaurant without speaking to the Mashgiach first and confirming he knows what he's doing. For the record any restaurant without aMashgiach who knows what he's doing is probably treif.

Do you differentiate between pareve/dairy/meat places?
