Activities: Toledo - a day trip from Madrid to see 2 old Shuls. Can hire a tour guide, Rabbi Hanoka (info@jewishtoledotour.com), which is not cheap, or can take a train on your own. 1 of the Shuls (El Transito) is closed on Mondays. @Yehuda went on a day when that Shul was closed, and the other Shul was really just an empty room and seemed like a Christian organization now runs the center. Without a tour guide, it was hard to get anything Jewish out of our trip (other than an antique store that had some Judaica). But, people who have taken the tour (discussed in the thread) have said it was great! Recommended to go with a tour or not go at all (and ensure to go on a day when both are open!). Report in the thread that the sometimes-closed Shul has audio headsets for use, so that would help. If going alone, you can research the Jewish places at the link HERE

No, but we chose an amazing Airbnb right near Las Ramblas. Was convenient, cheap and quite nice.

Can you give me the name of the place/host? I also going to be in Spain in 4 month? thanks!

Me and my friends booked a flight to Spain and didnt waste any minutes to visit this island. .You must check it out for yourself. I am trying to find out how to arrange in advance to be hosted for Shabbos meals in Gibraltar. I emailed the Gibraltar Jewish Community website but have not heard back yet. I wonder if any other DDF posters were hosted and can share information.

Posted this before, but reposting now closer to my upcoming trip to see if anyone else might want to weigh with some helpful advice on this. Seems awkward to solicit a Shabbos meal invite but apparently this is how it’s done in Gibraltar.

Is it safe and comfortable to walk around in Spain wearing a yarmulke, or is a hat a better idea? We plan to visit Madrid, Toledo, Granada, Seville, Barcelona, and also Gibraltar.

Walked around wearing a yarmulka in MAD, GRX and BCN no problem, no hat.

How was the trip? Did you take any Jewish tours? How were the kosher restaurants?

Trip was great. Did not take any Jewish tours in Spain, we did our own touring.

Only went to Restaurants in BCN. Shaq Shuq was decent - though I did not try any of the meat/chicken dishes there. Maccabi was very good. Both had great service.

Yes I read the Wiki.

Heres my thoughts:
I want to spend monday and tuesday in Barcelona, Wednesday in Cordoba then Thursday Seville ? do I need a day at each? really just want to tour the city, see old buildings etc. Was thinking to get the AVE to cordoba and then seville

Now my dilemma, earlier plan was to do wednesday and thursday in Athens, will do that on return. However, im not seeing any normal flights to TLV  from MAD or BCN on thursday may 31 or friday june 30.

rawr, any ideas or suggestions ?

nvm got it woohoo

basically i can fly seville to Lisbon with a  24 hour stopover in Lisbon and its cheaper than lisbon to miami.. ;) so the thought is tlv to bcn.. then AVE train to cordoba, train to seville, flight to lisbon then miami.

HA! does that make sense ? no it doesnt especially if im going to Barcelona on the way TO israel FML

Suggestions ?

Chevron: I haven’t yet been there but it sounds too rushed. I was told by a Jewish tour guide to skip Cordoba because the main site there, The Mesquita, is currently an active church, a Catholic cathedral.Doesn’t pay to go to that city just to see the statue of the Rambam.

I like beautiful old cities. Plus it's nice to see where the great scholars lived. In Toledo I could imagine Yehuda halevi
