Activities: Toledo - a day trip from Madrid to see 2 old Shuls. Can hire a tour guide, Rabbi Hanoka (info@jewishtoledotour.com), which is not cheap, or can take a train on your own. 1 of the Shuls (El Transito) is closed on Mondays. @Yehuda went on a day when that Shul was closed, and the other Shul was really just an empty room and seemed like a Christian organization now runs the center. Without a tour guide, it was hard to get anything Jewish out of our trip (other than an antique store that had some Judaica). But, people who have taken the tour (discussed in the thread) have said it was great! Recommended to go with a tour or not go at all (and ensure to go on a day when both are open!). Report in the thread that the sometimes-closed Shul has audio headsets for use, so that would help. If going alone, you can research the Jewish places at the link HERE

the ramblas, the gaudi architecture, park guell, the gothic quarter, theres a jewish tour (and a visit to the rashbas shul), the montjuic area, a fountain show...

How much time do you need in Barcelona to see the sites? Is 24 hours enough?

I see there's a Category 2 Four Points by Sheraton Diagonal in Barcelona. Ratings look good on Trip Advisor and only $K for room per night. Any reason any one feels neccesary to spend the extra $90 a night to be in Las Ramblas at the Le Méridien Barcelona? Thanks

Spain is difficult with regards to Jewish History as most of it has been wiped out. If you are in Madrid and take the high speed train over to Toledo for the day (about 30-45min) you can get a much better picture of Jewish history in Spain. There is a nice Jewish museum, 2 old synagogues and the main square where auto-de-fe's would take place.

I did it with a tour guide who I hired for a 1/2 day tour that was great, but not cheap.
I'll be in Madrid this coming Monday for about 11 hours and I'm willing to pay someone to give me a tour of Toledo, so could you give me this guys info? Any other advice appreciated.

I don't think I have his contact information anymore. It was 4 years ago already. I think I got it from either the Jewish community website where I sent emails to or from someone at the Sefadric Center in Israel.

I found someone in Madrid that's willing to give me a tour he want 450 euros and I bargained him down to 400, but that still sounds like a lot of money. How much did you pay? Any suggestions?

Here's an email which a relative forwarded me to assist you, at the end I've added the email address to contact them (BTW you may be able to get a lower price if they have an available tour guide for cheaper).

Quote
Toledo is about 1 hour driving from Madrid. We can do that. The tour to Toledo is about 6-8 hours, including the driving time.
The price for this tour will be 200€, including driver-guide (English or Hebrew), transport (go and back to the airport) and a private guided tour of 4 hours.
Will you need a Hebrew speeking guide or an English one?
Best regards,
Hadar Ragonis.

I emailed Alex Benarroch and he wanted 450€. I tried to email Hadar but the email failed twice. 200€ sounds a lot more reasonable, so Ill contact Hadar, thanks.
