Forcing To Remove A Religious Item Through Airport Security
« on: November 08, 2017, 03:48:21 AM »
A bit of a back story:

Recently I was catching a flight from Nimes Airport (France) to a wedding. If I would miss the flight, I would miss the wedding.

By security screening, I was walking through the metal detector, and one of the security agents told me in his words "Take off your Kipa".
This was obsurd to me. Out all the countries I have been to in Europe, I was never told to remove my Yarlmuka when walking through a metal detector. What puzzled me more was the woman in front of me and in back of me were both wearing hijab, but were let through no problem.
When he told me to take it off, I looked at him like he was crazy and responded "are you serious?" He then motioned to the head security guard to come. I didn't want to make a scene and especially didn't want to miss my flight. Without more questions I did what he said and covered my head with my sleeve, and gave him a dirty look while walking through the detector.
This whole thing obviously made me feel that he was discriminating against Jewish people.

What are the policies for religious garments in French airports?

Could I have made a point by asking why he let woman wearing Hijab through the scanners?

Thanks for reading through.

Lift it up and stop making such a tzimmes. When he asks a woman to take off her head covering we can worry about it.

In what? What's the big deal to lift up the kipa and have it checked?

That is not what he wrote. He wrote that they made it remain off while he went through and he needed to cover his head with his sleeve.

Just a dumb person. I'd bet if you talked reason to the head guy it would have been fine with a pat down or whatever.

I took an Alitalia flight from Israel to NY Bein Hazmanim time. In Rome all the women with snoods were asked to remove their head covering, with the option of doing so in a closed room with a female attendant. Those wearing sheitels were not stopped.

Am I missing something? You guys are all talking about different scenario. It happens often that you are asked to take of ur Kipah for a second so they can see if you have a bomb there... However he was instructed to pass the security metal detector with his Kipah off.
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

Then I don't see the point of having him take it off.
