Some interesting details. Will allow for an evening departure from TLV arriving at JFK 4am, while it involves a stop in IST, arguably the service is better than the nonstop carriers.

As it is NYC-TLV is the most significant O-D city pair for TK as per article. With NYC-Israel being the #2 COUNTRY destination from NYC for TK.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

While I have no answers to your questions, I think it is worth noting that TK offers free stopovers with a hotel stay on revenue RT tickets with a layover of at least 20 hours in IST. I might try to take advantage of this in the future. If anyone has taken advantage, I would love to hear about it.

I just recently had a layover in Istanbul. For J class the layover must be 9+ and for Y class it must be 12+ hours. It also must be the next available flight option out. Meaning you cannot intentionally make a long stopover and get a hotel if a shorter option is available.

They book different hotels for Y and J.

Was in J and got put up in the Sheraton Istanbul Esenyurt - it is far from both the airport and the city of Istanbul, not really near anything exciting. The hotel is comfortable though.

How long was your layover?

If one cannot intentionally book a longer layover then I don't really see the value. Supposedly in J they give 3 hotel nights, which could be something of interest.

My layover was about 15 hours.

I think this is different from what I was referring to. The program I am referring to is for a STOPOVER and for passengers originating in the US and traveling beyond Türkiye they give 2 nights for Y and 3 nights for J.

See T&C and details at https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-int/flights/stopover/

On the phone they claim that the 24hr free cancellation only applies to cash tickets.

DoT complaint?

Cancellations of Turkish Awards has become such a hassle. You cannot cancel *A tickets online. Tickets that are covered by the Israeli Consumer Protection Laws are even harder to cancel. The Sales office refuses to cancel and wants to charge $150 then $70 per ticket when the fee is 100ILS or 5% of the cost whichever is less. The website had this popup and now doesnt.

Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

I returned this Wed. I had no issue. My issue which i find interesting both on the way to Eretz Yisrael and back they have all the people (basically all our frum) wait in a holding area and they walk them to the Gate.

There is an open formal complaint against Turkish Airlines for not informing passengers of their rights not keeping to their contract of carriage etc.
Anyone who has had any issues with them is invited to leave a comment on the case even if not a flight covered by DOT regulations rather comment with their experience as proof that they dont keep to their own contract of carriage or deceptive marketing etc.
The case ID is DOT-OST-2023-0038
Link to the case is
https://www.regulations.gov/docket/DOT-OST-2023-0038

Additionally if you have issues with Israeli law you can file a complaint with the Ministry of Transportation
