My parents were supposed to be on that  9:15 am flight after sukkos and I just got an email that they were changed to a later flight.
Now I know why.

no reason given? thats odd
They fly 7 daily flights with all the current cancellations probably wasn't worth to keep all of them.

Anyone know the best way to get in touch with Turkish? I'm booked on one of the canceled flights, and all of the American numbers (http://www.turkishairlines.com/en-us/corporate/sales-office) either don't work or play hold music endlessly.

It plays hold music for a long time. the only thing to do is wait on hold. I waited on hold for an hour so i could select seats.

So I waited and waited and waited and finally got through to an agent to discuss my ticket. He told me that in order to make any changes I need to go into their office at JFK and speak to them there. I'm now on hold again waiting to speak to a supervisor..

Any input on what the chances of getting rebooked on a partner airline are?

Has anyone on DDF lost their luggage with Turkish and if so, what was your experience in terms of getting compensated etc. Also, has anyone ever used the insurance for lost baggage with Chase Sapphire Preferred? In either case, unfortunately, lost baggage is a reality with just about any airline and even on domestic flights in far greater numbers than one would think as per the article below. I am wondering what all these posts recently about Turkish airlines are being driven by. It seems to me that TK is a (majority) publicly owned company that pretty much has similar standards to what just about any major airline would be required to have. Is everyone just in a panic? I don't believe I have seen any first-hand bad reports on this forum about the airline. In fact, most say that their expectations were exceeded.

On board their flights - from personal experience it is rather nice on the long haul flights - short haul is regular.

re the baggage: they delayed about 15 bags of ours in ukraine arrived literally erev rosh hashono - supplies for the whole yom tov. they offered $50 compensation per bag.

side note:
A guy walks up to Turkish airlines counter, receives his boarding pass JFK to Istanbul and proceeded to request,
"I'd like this first bag to be delivered in Toyko, the 2nd bag to Los Angeles, and the third to Zurich."
the agent a bit baffled replies "but sir your flying to istanbul, we can only deliver your bags there!?"
the passenger responds "well you did exactly that last time!?"

sorry for digressing :)

according to this:
http://www.totpi.com/planning-fly-turkish-airlines-read.html

a) Israel won't allow the Iranian flights in (hence the cancellations)
b) the Iranian pilots don't have the same training as other int'l pilots because of sanctions.

That's fine if by using another airline you will still have no problem flying to Israel and spending money there. But for me, I got tix on TK for about 700 per ticket and I would not have gone at all  (with my wife and daughter) if it would have been more expensive. In that case, exactly how is Israel gaining by me not going and spending money? Also, what would you say to people who already have tix with Turkish? Would you tell them to cancel for a total loss and rebook using another airline. That's pretty pricey even if it's only one ticket.

Was it in the airport the entire time or was it put on the wrong plane ?

I was just in JFK trying to sort out my tickets, and I ended up near the lost and found for all the airlines in that terminal. The amount of bags that Turkish had, especially compared to the other airlines, did not inspire confidence. There were probably 100+ bags sitting there.

What happened with the tix?

What happened with the tix?

So they told me on the phone that they could sort it out at JFK. So I went and spoke to the ticket agent, who told me that because my flight was canceled, they rebooked me onto a flight several hours later, making my layover now 7 hours long. I tried arguing and I asked her to rebook me onto a partner airline, and she refused, and would not let me speak to a supervisor, as she claimed there wasn't one. So I wandered around trying to find another Turkish counter, and that's how I ended up at the lost and found, where there happened to be a supervisor. She put me on the phone with someone else, who was actually very nice and was trying to see if she could put me on a different airline, until the supervisor grabbed the phone away from me and told the lady on the phone that she couldn't do it. They gave me an email address to write to to see if there is anything that can be done. I wrote to them, and now I guess we will see what happens...
