I am flying to IST shortly on a J class award ticket with TK and have a 14+ hour layover.

Anyone have any experience with getting a free hotel in IST when forced layover is greater than 10 hours?  Were you able to choose the hotel or area?  And if you are able to choose, any recommendations on which area to choose?  I'm arriving around 5pm and only departing the following morning, so it would be nice to stay in an area that has some nightlife or something of interest.

No idea about that, but the grand Hyatt Istanbul is one of the best category 4s around if you have an annual fee night certificate.

I'd advice you to stay in the airport/lounge it's  not safe to go out from the airport in  these days  .

I don't know if that is accurate. But in the J lounge (the biggest I've ever seen) you can get a bedroom if you have more than 6 hours to your flight (though I believe it needs to be less than 12 hours, not sure if requesting it a few hours after arrival will help).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

TK rep is telling me that bassinet seats can go in any row of the J cabin- not just bulkhead. Anyone have experience with this?
I don't want to get on the plane and find out that the bassinet can't go in our row (bulkhead is currently only available in 3 across middle row which I'm trying to avoid).

I don't know, but my guess is that they are misunderstanding your question.

I don't recall ever seeing a bassinet in J on any airline.

Anyone rethinking flying through Turkey now?
Sometimes it doesn't pay to save money.

If you stay in the airport you have  nothing what to worry about.
