UA wants me to pay $1049 for the infant because my ticket officially costs 10k and I have to pay 10%

Anything to avoid this fee ? When I booked I added a child and they didn't ask me for $$

Update: With the help of  @a mirrer I was able to get the infant ticketed at $444 for my flights

thanks everyone for all your help

Yes. No issues whatsoever. Some of the best Kosher airline meals out of Istanbul.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

That guy doesn't know how to fly, and didn't have a single ticket with a connection, but rather multiple tickets, which required him to exit the airside in order to check in for another flight.

That is not true. It was one ticket, but required a domestic flight within Turkey (Ankara -> Antalya) which is why the visa was required.

But that is really besides the point. The point is about the crap the Turkish airport authorities can arbitrarily decide to put you through with little recourse if they don't like your last name or kippa. It was a direct answer to the question about the safety of transiting in Turkey.

While it is correct that an internal Ankara->Antalya flight would have required a visa, I still doubt it was a single ticket.

When one has no proper documentation/visa one can get into similar problems in almost any country, including the US. It should also be pointed out that with the possible exception of the ESB-AYT leg, it is highly unlikely that any of the legs were on Turkish Airlines.

Question wasn't about the country, but rather about the AIRPORT. While IST Ataturk Airport is not an ideal airport to transit, as it is huge, old, with bad signs, there is absolutely no security problem there.

In today's day and age, transiting for international flights (especially involving travel to/from the US or TLV) isn't a pleasant experience. And I have noted elsewhere the problem with Gözen security not emphasizing proper use of deodorant with their employees. But I wouldn't make that a reason not to transit via IST.

IME Turkish Airlines website doesn't pull up by ticket number if it doesn't start with 235.

You will need the TK record locator in order to access.

You can email Turkish at NYC.Ticketing@THY.com Pretty responsive.

+1

Whenever you need something from TK don't bother with the call center. Reach out to a local ticket office. Same goes if you're in TLV reach out to sales.TLV@thy.com

Anyone know if you need to re-do security when connecting from TLV-IST-JFK? Travelling with a bunch of small kids and the layover is 1.5h. A bit worried we may miss the connection. Do the strollers come up right away or can that take a long time as well?

Flights to the US or TLV have extra security with pat-down etc at gate (you might want to be aware of this). It is a huge airport, and often you will need to walk quite a bit to/from gates, but 90 minutes should be sufficient for connection.
