Can magnets ruin my cell phone?
« on: November 19, 2017, 07:45:19 PM »
My nephew stuck my s8 and my sisters iPhone to the skigen magnet pad in the car and was playing around with it.
Never realized there was magenta strong enough to stick to things in our phone.
Any chance this ruined anything in the device?

Anything specific to check for?

Nope. Magnets only harm physical spinning-disk hard drives and really old computer/TV monitors

Hmm in that case ... why do they sell magnet pieces for the back of phones when they stick just fine without them?

Because most phones won’t stick/stick well without. If it did damage something, a second magnet would make zero difference.

Well the magent would be facing the opposite direction and putting another amount of distance between the phone and the magnet.

If they both stick to the mount then they are both facing the same direction so the second magnet is only attracting the mount closer to the phone, and if they are opposite then it would also add force to the mount. Either way the phone is fine.

The ones that are a sphere, could be kept on an angle, and you can rotate it.
