4500HUF is not bad, it's when they try to rip you off that's a pain.

I'm in Budapest and I noticed in the courtyard outside Hannas there's a sign saying that Carmel lost an Hashgacha in April. It said which Rabbi's hashgacha they lost but I don't remember.

On jewishbudapest.org it shows otherwise while Hannas doesn't show any hashgacha.

Anyway, Hannas did not look appetizing while Carmel was delicious x2 nights. (I saw the sign afterwards)

Under Rabbi Oberlander - Chabad for approx. 2 years (his son is machgiach)
Used to be under the rabbinate, they keep on posting to make tourists aware that the only eatery under their supervision is Hannah

Youre making a mistake. Hanna is the authentic food. Carmel is good too. Dont judge that book by its cover.

Hanna belongs to the kehilla so it supports poor people in the community by subsidizing their meals there. Carmel is for profit venture. Just some social justice perspectives.

I didn't try it personally. I just know that while eating at Carmel there were others that commented how much better Carmel's food is.

It's a purposefully misleading sign. It shows that there is Jewish life in Hungary again as there is a healthy dose of infighting between all the groups. Well, that's the positive spin on it.

On jewishbudapest.org it shows otherwise while Hannas doesn't show any hashgacha.
That site may not be very authoritative when it comes to hechsherim. Hanna is certified by Rav Shmuel Eliezer Stern of Bnei Brak

Also wishful thinking. In all my years there never once saw a sign like that. New management at Hanna also lost some of its old time flavor. I still remember Carmel having hebrew sign that sait it wasnt kosher. Still feel funny every time i walk in there.

It's not so simple, carmel is under so called  Status Quo kehilla, many whose families are from budapest would never touch it.

Hanna is under rabbinate and they use it as a marketing method.

In any case make your due diligence on Rabbi Oberlander and bon apetite

You question Rabbi Oberlander? A Pupa talmid from Williamsburg and the Rebbes shaliach. Best of both worlds.
They both use the same shochet AFAIK Kestenbaum from Vienna.
