Not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but deciding between Budapest, Vienna & Prague, which place would be the best base for a few days of touring, in terms of Kosher food/hotels, pricing, things to do...

Prague for sure

I love Budapest. I spent weeks at a time there over the last 15 years including half a summer in 2002.

You cannot find a 5 star hotel like the Kempinski or the former Le Meridian that are priced at less than $100 a night in the winter and not much more in the high season. The only time i ever paid more was during Formula One Racing (late July first week in August) and Hungarian Independence week (August 20).

The Kings hotel was a dump but the kosher option was there. It is no longer kosher so thats that. The restaurants dont have spectacular ambiance but the food is great, portions big, price extremely affordable. Two people can eat a nice dinner in either restaurant for less than $40 total.

The Dollar is very strong against the HUF, a big plus over Euro denominated Vienna or Prague. 9 Uber trips this past March cost me less than $30 total.

Its an old city, a bit dirty. The JEwish neigborhood is one of the hottest if not the hottest area in town. New construction, nightlife, restaurants (non-kosher).

Anti-semitism is a bit more pronounced than in Vianna and Prague, so baseball caps were in order.

There are regular minyanim.

No kvarim besides R' Oppenheimer in the City. Most kvarim are in eastern Hungary 2-3 hours east of the city by car. The Drivers are reasonably priced. $250 for 12 hours.

In Vienna you have some rebbes in the old cemetery and the Chasam Sofer and Ksav Sofer are in nearby Bratislava (45 minute bus ride from airport). Prague has Altneu Shul, and the Maharal and others in the old cemetery.

So I guess it depends on what you're looking to do.

Once you're going there, 1 USD = 13,075 IDR. I took out 1 million at the ATM when I was there. Never felt like a bigger legend :P

I was just responding to the misinformation you posted, that Prague is dominated by the Euro. That's all.

And i was just pointing out that in a vacuum those figures mean nothing unless they are placed in context.

In jewish area probably nothing. Outside, use your head. Just be mindful. never felt threatened, just uncomfortable. Maybe its because we understood the language too. Its subtle, yet present.
