Got a call from Chase (or at least, so they claim..)

I recently signed up for 2 Chase cards, i got declined for one of them so far, and i'm still waiting on the 2nd one.
today, i got a call from 302-758-1000, and the woman on the line said she's from chase, calling about a credit card, and she asked me if i am <my name>, then she started asking me to verify my birthday, etc. I said i will not give you any information about myself because YOU initiated the call, and i can't tell if you are really calling from chase. so she said, well don't you have caller ID? so i said, plenty of people know how to fake caller IDs. so i said i'll need to call Chase myself. so she asked if i had a pen/paper to write down the number to call, i said no, and she said she'll call back later...

Has anyone ever gotten a call after applying for cards? and was it from this same number?

I got a call from chase after applying for the co op card I don't remember what the number was though. Next time they call ask for a reference number then call recon or app status and give them the number and ask to be transfered to the proper dept

I got a call from chase twice after applying, and thus it was accurate since I got approved instantly after putting down with them.

Unless the ID was spoofed. I think someone has to come up with new security solutions for these kinds of scenarios. Similar to how they have verification images/quotes they display when you log onto some bank accounts.

+1 There's gotta be something they can do to prove to me over the phone that they are legit, otherwise, how do i know it's real?

I guess i'll wait till they call me back, and i'll ask for a reference number, and call back.

it may not be their dept it could be for security verification, although recon should be able to transfer you to the right dept

I've had that before, if you're self employed and/or at your job for a short time they may want more info..

Call app status, give them your SSN and they'll give you reference numbers for all your recent apps.
