Bold touch 9900 has been delayed until September. The Bold 9790 and 9930 are other rumoured devices that could be released this summer. All of these should run OS 7.0 and have touch screens with NFC technology.

Isn't the 9930 just a CDMA version of the 9900?

Correct. They will likely have different release dates though.

Isn't the GSM version usually released first though? What would hold it up vs. the CDMA one?

I'm thinking it's probably the whole 9900 series being delayed, possibly because they're waiting on BB OS7.

Here is an article from last week on the delay - http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-20068783-85.html. Doesn't even mention the 9930 so who knows.

BGR is the source, and he's got the 9930 tagged as well, are you convinced yet?

Nope. Another article from yesterday --> http://www.fudzilla.com/mobiles/item/22970-bold-9900-confirmed-as-delayed.

"A couple of things that we do not know are if the delay of the 9900 will affect the release of other closely aligned units such as the 9930 or the Torch 2, for example."

I still say "who knows." The article states that a combination of issues is causing the delay - parts availability likely being one of them.

Meh, don't believe everything you read. I don't think RIM has ever released a CDMA version of a device before the GSM version, and if there are part delays then they would ostensibly affect both models.

Exactly why I said "who knows." But just to play devil's advocate - could be a parts issue with the GSM hardware.

Anyway, here is the official site: http://us.blackberry.com/smartphones/blackberrybold/touchbold.jsp
And here is an article/hands-on from today's release in Singapore: http://vr-zone.com/articles/research-in-motion-unveils-blackberry-bold-9900-in-singapore/12700.html

Should be an interesting few months leading up to launch with all these rumours of a possible takeover of RIM.

A takeover by who? Linky please?

A takeover of RIMM would be a lifesaver of sorts as without it they might go under the way things are going now.

I'll have to find links later...I know yesterday I read of a possible takeover by Lenovo. Seemed like complete speculation by the analyst, but with their current stock price I'm sure the rumours will continue. "All these rumours" was a bit of an exaggeration, but there have been a few rumours...links to follow later on.

Article talking about how a takeover of RIM is hard to believe:
http://blogs.forbes.com/ericsavitz/2011/06/21/research-in-motion-a-takeover-target-thats-hard-to-believe/

Articles on takeover rumours:
http://www.thestar.com/business/companies/rim/article/1012364--rim-shares-rise-on-takeover-rumour?bn=1
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/21/rim-employees-idUSN1E75K1ZL20110621?feedType=RSS&feedName=marketsNews&rpc=43

Overall, these articles seem to reference possible buyout rumors and then continue to say that any buyout in the near future is unlikely.

Saw that article this morning. Pretty grim outlook. Seems like everyone in the US is moving on/already has moved on from the Blackberry.

I'm in the US, and I haven't moved on yet. Soon enough though...

The 9900 delays are yet another nail in their coffin, it's sad so see them go down, such a great company.

Nu, anyone recently bought the new BB 9900/9930?

I just got one for my wife. It really is an upgrade to the old BB devices. Personally, I'm waiting for the IP 5 to hit Sprint in October to compare and contrast.

Any Thoughts?

Agreed. Even so, I think I may finally be abandoning the RIM ship come Iphone 5. I just can't take it any longer.
