United Basic Economy- How bad is it?
« on: November 28, 2017, 02:54:59 PM »
If I book on one reservation for me and the wife, will they really look not to seat us together, or I shouldn't worry about it?

If I have a baby with me, is Basic Economy less of an issue?

If basic economy is $40 less per ticket, is there any reason not to save the $80?  (My options would be to need to pay $25 for 2 carry-ons for a total of $50, or skip it and just pay a total of $25 for one suitcase, and no carry-on.)

I have the United club card, and booked a basic economy ticket. the main restriction should be the inability to choose seats. However, i just checked my reservation and it says that for $5-$15 i can choose seats for myself and companion (only economy - no option to purchase e+). I was then able to choose seats without paying anything. have they changed their policies? was that a glitch?

I had a pretty good experience on a weekend trip to ABQ. The biggest pain was that the agent has to verify your baggage, so even if you just have a backpack with you, you still have to wait in line to check in. Got seats together on both departing and returning flights.

Yes, The only way i was able to get the regular economy seats without having to pay the $5-15, was by selecting economy plus and then switching to regular economy.
When booked in basic economy you usually arent allowed to even view the seatmap.
Im not complaining....

If one is silver elite, can they book the basic economy then call united and be granted a "free" seat in advance or with basic econmy, status doesnt matter and you do not get a free on board bag and no advance seat? I tweeted nited asking but no response yet but want to book the ticket asap

I heard back from the social media team:
"our silver status members can certainly book Basic Economy, however this does come with the rules and regulations at the time of booking, such as seating and carry-on items.

thats insane!i cant believe they wouldnt let their status members get  a seat in advance

Which TA would book a domestic flight without a markup?
