Never had or heard of any issues.
8 kids on 1 reservation, they will allow 1 carry-on per kid?

If traveling with a lap child and a toddler in basic economy, is there any chance they'll separate me from the toddler since I can't pick seats?

Just wanted to update in case it would help anyone else - I called and nicely asked if we can be seated together. Not only that, she let me pick preferred seats (aisle and window in the hopes that the middle stays empty) for both flights  :)

Wouldn't you rather sit near your toddler than to have someone between?

Most people won't have a problem switching from middle to window/aisle so if someone is seated there I'll switch with them

Anyone know if I’m only going with a personal item, can I carry my talis and tefillin separately or would they give me problems? Same question with Spirit

If you put it in a big bag, chances are they'll let you go through. They usually don't give an issue with shopping bags.

How strict would united be with the dimensions of the personal item?
Would a shtreimal box be a problem?
How about one of these at 14"x8"x16"?

FWIW I'm a mileage plus explorer cardholder so FWIU i get a full carryon but the rest of my party doesn't but we all get priority boarding

they never measured my carry on’s. Flew basic plenty of times with Shtrmiel Box and hand luggage. No issues.
