Driving from NY to Toronto - Need some help.
« on: July 10, 2011, 05:52:44 PM »
Am planing on driving from NY to Toronto 7/14 - 7/18. Where is the best place to rent?

I figured driving (4 ppl) is the cheapest and most practical way.

Am 25yo (2nd driver 22).

Enterprise (using chabad) is pricing: $ 205.71 USD

Want to stop for the night near or at Niagara, what area shud i look for on priceline?

Thanks

Side note: Make sure they insure you for all places you're driving to. Usually they just insure for NY, NJ and CT. In my experience they will usually do it (though  I never tried Canada).

i've done it, it shouldnt be a problem just let the rental company know first

i just did a 3 rental to toronto. i didn't inquire about insurance there. I just assumed it'll be fine. I found the easiest and best deal (i my area - queens) was to go with hotwire's special rate where you dont find out the name of rental company until after you book. It saved me nice money and ended up being National - twice in the last 2 weeks.

I took the advice found here http://www.dansdeals.com/forums/index.php?topic=128.0 and told them my family car was in the shop and inquired about the insurance rate. They told me it was aprox. $31/day. I told them the car at the shop wasnt under my name and i didnt want to get things complicated with them billing my insurance company for the rental as it wasnt under my name. They said they will give me there "at the car shop" rate of $35/day. :)

Yes.
There insurance company rates vary per company but are arnd $31 and u need a claim number. Depending on the insurance company they may bill them directly.
