The taxes are charged for every passenger travelling.
Unless your baby fits in your hand luggage...

i've done it many times, there's i've yet to figure out a way getting around the infant fee,the only thing i can recommend is in case your doing a stopover and flying with another airline,it usually is cheaper to pay with the airline that's flying than thru continental.btw,i believe because of the infant your entitled to one extra suitcase,at least you get that!

i've done it in the past with co,elal and delta, just double check with the airline as their policy changes daily :D and that is besides for the stroller and i believe your also entitled to an extra carry on bag-diaper bag.

I've always done these trips with an infant (or2) and was always allowed an extra suitcase + stroller + carry on.
Good luck!
it CAN be done!

10% of the paid fare is typical.  On a mileage ticket that can be 10% of the full fare, even if discounted ticket are available.
It also seems unfair in business as the kid isn't taking up a business seat from the airline-the baby weighs the same in coach, business, or first.

Is there really no way of buying an adult ticket with a 24 hour cancellation policy, getting a paper ticket for the baby, and cancelling the adult ticket?

You really think that a paper ticket doesnt at all go in or out of the system?
