Ticket in the catskills
« on: July 11, 2011, 03:02:46 PM »
just got pulled over on the rt42 by a "summer guest" state trooper, she was driving in the opposite direction took a u-turn and ticketed me for speeding 51/30. she actually caught up to me when i was in a 55 zone. she wrote on the deposition charge based on: observation speed verified by: radar(not really convinced as i was under the limit before she finished her u-turn). whats the best way too attack this? request a radar print out (will that give me the 30 day min. to receive it or else resulting in dismissal of charges)? come in with pic's and claim that the state trooper is unfamiliar with the road(being that i am a local)?
any help appreciated

Why couldn't she have used the radar while before she made the U-turn?

I have no experience with this, but I've heard that asking for a radar calibration report (showing that the radar is accurate) can help.

I always thought that they cant use the radar while their car is moving. I could be wrong about that

Don't know. Are you sure she didn't radar you from a hiding place while still, and then start driving down the road to make the U-turn?

Q: Can cops really still get an accurate radar account of your vehicle speed while they are driving from the opposite direction while pointing the radar gun?

A: Yes.

“It’s called a moving radar,” State Patrol Sgt. J.J. Gundermann said. “The radar in the patrol car calculates the patrol car’s speed and the speed of a vehicle either approaching from the opposite direction or another vehicle approaching from the rear.”

I had the police in Israel radar me on the way to eilat, he was coming from the other direction, they can measure your speed no problem. He turned his lights on, about 100 feet before he passed me and made a u turn, so these machines are quite good.

127 on a 90 road, I saw him coming and was able to slow down from 145

No such thing as a radar print out. They just can't. All it has is a little screen.
To top that off, cops in NYS are all trained to be "speed recognition experts", which means they can give you the same speeding ticket without the radar gun. The cop will come to trial, and testify to your speed.

The better option is to plead it down by yourself, or hire a attorney to do it for you if you can't go, as you would end up paying around $685 if you plead guilty, and could hire a attorney for around $300.

Its not really spam if he knows what he's talking about.
I'd just advise him to remove his annoying built-in signature.
