So far that hasn't really happened across the board... Even other banks dont do that.
I do not think this will happen, though they can start closing accounts for abuse.

Not to go OT, but why does Amex even care whether spend is MS or organic? They collect their fees either way.
Risk is opportunity

For bonused spend categories, I can understand since the rewards given may be equal to or greater than the charge fees collected.

For non-bonused spend, completely agree with you.

i wouldnt skip, i got the email after already getting the points. clawbacks are unlikely IMO aand you can always use the miles first.

1. They wan to collect cash advance fees on cash equivalents.
2. They want signup bonus breakage
3. They don't want to offer more bonus category points than they have to as that's a loss leader for the card.

I guess this RAT is paying dividends. Some MS spend is no longer earning points.
Namely?

I'm sure AMEX and Delta will find a way to make clawbacks work if they want to.

None of what their doing addresses this
2. They want signup bonus breakage
How big a deal is this given once per lifetime limit?
3. They don't want to offer more bonus category points than they have to as that's a loss leader for the card.
Then why not just cap the bonus like Chase does with 5x on ink/freedom?

not saying its not possible, just that its a lot less likely. also, delta doesnt neccessarily want to

Perhaps they don't want the MS type people. They generally cost Amex a lot in frequent sign up bonuses but don't provide long term revenue.
They want long term consistent spenders, and if you need MS to reach a 3k sign up bonus they probably wont make much on you long term.

Amex already shut down the people they were costing them the big $$, I don't think this crazy level of scrutiny on the average consumer is going to be worth it in the long run.

You will get it clawed back, that's pretty much a guarantee. You can negate the damage if you really want to though.

I don't mean that they closed everyone's accounts but they made it a lot harder to do what they were doing. It was those people that were costing amex so much, not the random people signing up for a regular delta card.

Alright, if you feel so strongly about it, why even ask?
