You mean, looking beyond the agents anger, is it possible to get through such a phone call withou AMEX blacklisting you, charging your account for all the points they gave you, and also reinstating the $200 spent on airline fees?

When they gave me a hard time cancelling the plat all i did was send an SM about how disappointed I am with their CS. They wrote back apologizing, crediting me the full amount ...

the fact that the op hung up on them twice (which is pretty comical if u ask me, i wonder what the csr thought of that), says otherwise.

Yup, I got notated that I "hung up" too, when my phone got disconnected

The following CSR (amex plat) called it a stupid note, haha

My sister called and was haggled. They guilted her out about the benefits she received etc.

They asked her to keep open the acct. and offered either $100 or 15,000 points to convince her. She took the bait (15k).

It actually isn't a bad deal in her case since she was past the 60 days and would only have received about $320 back - 15k is worth over $200 and she has platinum for a full year AND can probably get airline credits in January again.

BTW I didn't mention that I got offered something similar a while back with my Platinum - except I was offered 25k.

I thought it was b/c I had referred a lot of people and was showing a lot of points in my account.

I received that 15K offer on my previous Platinum after claiming that i didn't receive all my points, i reviewed that later and I saw that it was notated with a bonus ID code. seems that they officially have such a bonus ID, not only a goodwill.

I wouldn't use that argument if you have other Amex card. Someone in the household losing their job is a potential credit risk, and could possibly trigger an F/R (if it gets logged somewhere).

never said he lost his job.. just said its a possibility. and it worked quite well twice. they were so kind and understanding.... didnt give me one problem closing!

I don't have that account open anymore to be able to view it, but i do remember that it started with a 62-- and it had 4 numbers.
BTW, why do you need it? after closing an account you'll probably not have success cAlling up and saying: "I was promised 15,000 points under this bonus ID"
