What do we gain by having Trump acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of Israel?

It's not that I don't see some of the benefits.  I'm just wondering if the cons ouweigh the pros.

I haven't. That's what I'm asking. Again, I have mixed feelings about it.  I just don't understand enough of the reasoning either way.

Recognizing reality helps keep the expectations of both sides realistic. A false illusion that Jerusalem as the capitol is negotiable doesn't.

The fact is that there was never any chance of any Israeli negotiating on West Jerusalem. Feeding such a delusion did nothing to help advance peace.
