So I was going over my Freedom purchases since July to see where I am holding for the x5 quarterly restaurants and I realized that I've had like 4 purchases in Essen NY Deli totaling about $300 that I wasn't being given x5 for. So I sent a SM to Chase asking why and they responded that in their system its under Supermarket/Grocery so that's why it wasn't eligible. So I responded that it's not a Grocery store and that its a Restaurant that I frequent often and I sent a link to their website for them to see. They responded that they forwarded the concern to a Manager in the Rewards department for further review. Lets see if I can get them to change it.........
So i had the same issue and sent SM to chase but was not successful, anything i can still do? SEE:
Thank you for contacting Chase about the rewards points on
your Freedom account ending in ****.
We appreciate you as a customer and would be glad to
assist you. Let me share, the rewards adjustments you
requested cannot be made because the merchant is not in an
eligible category. Your transactions of $59.11 and $5.42
from Essen New York Deli were placed under the category of
grocery stores.
Visa and MasterCard systems assign a category code to each
merchant, based on the kinds of products and services they
sell. Sometimes the system places merchants in a
generalized category, like "superstores" instead of
"grocery stores" or "gas stations."
Since the merchant in question was not assigned an
appropriate category, your purchases did not qualify for
the 5.00% cashback reward.
If you need any other assistance, you can send us a secure
message. We appreciate your business and thank you for
choosing Chase.
Now what? How on earth are they a grocery?
