5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

Chase Pay via Samsung Pay consistently gets me 5 points. At first I was careful to go through the Chase Pay app, but it seems to work just as well to pay directly from Samsung Pay (which is much faster) as long as the accounts are linked.

yes

Are we talking about here after you link the 2 - to then go ahead and pay directly from the samsung pay app with the card that says "chase pay" next to it?

Or are we talking about logging into chase pay and the linking from there to samsung pay?

Either.
Thnx! Cuz using the chase pay app is quite a pain. Much easier to use the samsung app.

On your website it just says "If you have a Samsung phone you can add a card to both Chase Pay and Samsung Pay and then in the Chase Pay app select to pay with Samsung Pay in order to qualify for this bonus"      Maybe you should write that it also works from the samsung app once you link them?

Thnx for all your help

I can confirm that I used samsung pay directly to pay with a card that was linked to chase pay and it counted as chase pay

I can confirm that yesterday I used Samsung Pay directly (without logging in first to Chase Pay) to pay with a card that was linked to Chase Pay (installed on the same phone) and it did not earn bonus points. When the Samsung Pay app was showing the card, it showed the Chase logo (outside of the rectangle depicting the card) which I thought was enough of an indication that it would count like Chase Pay, but alas it did not.

Chase announces Q1 5% category gas, drug stores and tolls
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20181213005410/en/Chase-Freedom®-Gas-Stations-Drugstores-Tolls-New
Does this mean I could load my E-ZPass and get 5 points per dollar?

Is there a way to get the 1.5 per $1 spent for a chase business card?currently have 10 ink preferred cards but would love to get the benefit of the freedom of 1.5 per $1 spent in a business card.

There’s now an Ink Card that offers that, change to that on one of them.

Wrong thread, though.
