5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

So, it's probably the same as with 7-elevens, the ones that are attached to gas stations code as gas and those that arenot, don't.
Incorrect re 7 11. IME, all of them code as gas, including many that do not have gas.  Not sure about QC, though.

I see now that it does, but I seem to remember that it used to code as convinience or something like that.
Small people talk about other people.
Average people talk about things
BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.

Q3:
  • Gas Stations
  • Rental Car Agencies
  • Movie Theaters
  • Select Live Entertainment

Can someone explain to me how I can use my chase preferred card when booking a car rental so I get the insurance coverage and then switch to the freedom card to get the 5x bonus for car rentals? @Dan posted about it but didn’t explain how or when to switch the cards.

the csp would be used as a hold on the rental in case the insurance is necessary. At the time of return, you can switch the credit card for the actual payment to process

Got it, but now thinking about it It would be an issue since it’s a car rental in another country. If I switched to the freedom then I would get charged a foreign transaction fee, correct?

Is it possible to get approved for another CFU if I already have 3 on my account?

I make each child an AU for their own dedicated CFU when they start high school. That way I can keep each kid's bills separate and when they inevitably lose the card, cancelling it it doesn't affect the other kids. And by the time they start college they have excellent credit (750+).

I already have multiple Inks, 3 CFU's, 2 CF's, 1 CFF and 1 CSP on my account from multiple CSP/CSR downgrades over the years. My current CSP is less than 2 years old. DW and I use Ink Unlimited cards for our daily spend but adding an AU to business cards don't report to credit bureaus (I want it to to build the child's credit). I tried applying for a new CFU but I was rejected because "you already have this type of credit card account with us". I prefer to apply under my own account instead of DW or DC so I can manage it from one Chase login.

Any advice for a Chase card that I can get approved that generates UR and can be PC'd to CFU after 1 year? Can anyone apply for the Chase Freedom Student and can it be PC'd to CFU? Will they deny the Freedom Student because it is in the same Freedom product family? Neither Chase Customer Service nor Recon could give me a definitive answer.

If I have the targeted offer of 5% cash back for every $1 you spend on up to $1,500 in combined purchases at gas stations and grocery stores from July 1 through September 30, 2023 with your Chase Freedom® Card. And I also activated the 3Q 5% category which includes gas stations, will I earn a total of 10 points per dollar on gas?

This quarter, Wholesale clubs like Costco earn 5%.

Would this include Costco gas too?

Thanks.
