5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

And? What could it hurt to append that to the offer?

Did you see what part of his post I was responding to (bolded in my quote)?

Want to sign up for this card soon, Wondering why they call it $200 cashback rather than 20000 bonus points, like they do by the Sapphire, Ink etc. Is something different here?
And anyone recently SM'd to match to 30k?

It's officially (or at least once was) a cashback card, but they give you UR points that you can convert to miles by transferring the points to an account (yours or someone elses) that can transfer to miles.

30K match via SM still works.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Isn't the 5% only up to a certain amount?

Don't get too excited. Its been said on here many times that AP does not count as Amazon regarding the bonus points.

I'm not following. If it's $1500 then 1500 X 5 = 7500 where are you getting 15000 points from?

Plus as saver said unless you yourself get it in writing I wouldn't count on getting it (though might be good for some good will credit?)

thanks for the correction. I am off with my calculations (just got my freedom yesterday :))
I thought you can make up to $1500 in cash back per quarter.

I will def shoot off an sm before I start sending money via AP. It does seem like an easy way to cash in on the 5% bonus

I guess I wasn't clear the first time. SM's don't mean much. Don't work to hard based on an sm.

I'm not sure about that. I think if you have it in writing they will manually give you (at least some of) the points. They seem to be pretty good with that. And if they have to manually add it it will work in you favor because then you can still spend the full $1500 on something legit and get the 5X back

You have a point.  But if you do 1500 x $1 transactions,  I doubt they will give you everything you are owed. -( 1500 + 15000 + 150)
