5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

This worked for me.

I recently applied and was approved for the Chase Freedom
card with a bonus of $200. I now see that there is a
better offer for $300 offer DN52 . I feel bad that I
missed out on this offer. I was wondering if it would be
possible to apply this offer to my account.

Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you!!
I took the liberty to copy and paste your SM.

I just got approved for a Freedom, and when speaking to a CSR while validating the card, he told me that I got a sign up bonus of 10K UR points.  I found it weird as I used the 20K link, and asked him to match me to the 20K and he said he can't.

I SM'ed your exact message and received the following response.

Quote
Dear YG,

I am writing in response to your rewards inquiry about the
10,000 first use bonus points.

We would like to thank you for having applied for a new
Freedom account with us. Upon review, I notice that your
account is entitled to earn 20,000 bonus reward points
after having spent $500.00 in the first 93 days of the
account open date. Once the eligibility requirement of
spending $500.00 is met for this offer, the 20,000 reward
points will be added to your rewards balance within one to
two billing cycles.

Upon review, I am pleased to inform you that as you are a
valued cardmember with us since a long time and also have
other Chase accounts, I have added the additional 10,000
reward points required to match the offer to earn 30,000
reward points. These points will reflect your rewards
balance within the next 24 - 48 hours.

I hope I was able to make a positive difference in your
experience with Chase today. If you have any further
questions, please reply using the Secure Message Center.

Thank you,

Jasmeet Singh

I sent the SM in the early hours of the AM today and the 10K points are already showing up.

PS.  I like the fact that the basis for the approval for the 30K was:
Quote
I am pleased to inform you that as you are a
valued cardmember with us since a long time and also have
other Chase accounts
.....

My first ever business with chase was a SW RR card I Opened in Nov 2011, which I closed to recon a second SW RR which I closed to recon a CO OP, UA Explorer, and a Freedom.  So the entire duration of my relationship with chase is approximately three months.  Additionally I do not have any non-CC accounts with chase [although I do hope to open a checking account for exclusives with the Freedom (much of my CC business is small transactions) as soon as I find someone with a fee-free checking ccount to piggy-back on]

I guess "since a long time" is relative, and perhaps my "other chase accounts" refers to my two closed SW cards, and CO OP and UA cards that have a combined total CL of 5K and are not yet old enough for a pidyon haben.

Do you have a offer code that one could try at least to match via SM?

Sorry all, I just rechecked the offer with I had only looked at briefly and it is a Chase Ink Cash Business Card, which I also already have, but they are offering to start with $400 Cash back which I dont know if its UR points or a separate program....  I think only the Ink Bold earns UR not the Ink Cash, and I dont know if its possible to convert from one to another after applying/earning points..

Ink Cash earned UR and transferred to SP/IB IME.

got matched to the 300 w/ in 30 min of sending the message:

Dear joeb1,
I am writing in response to your e-mail about the $300.00
bonus offer on the Freedom card.

With the continual changes in promotional offers for many
credit card products, we at Chase will always consider
allowing the newest promotion to be applied to any
qualified accounts that were opened within the previous 90
days of the offer.

Upon review, I see that based on the introductory offer on
your account, you were supposed to get a bonus of 25,000
points, i.e. $200.00 cashback after the first $500.00 in
purchases made within 93 days of the account open date.
However, as a gesture of our commitment we will add
another 10,000 points, i.e. $100.00 cashback to the account.
I would request you to meet the spending criteria and then
contact us and we will add the bonus points to the
account.

As always, your satisfaction is important to us. If you
have any further questions, please reply using the Secure
Message Center.

Thank you,

Hi,
I got this card with the promotion of $200 after spending
$500. Recently I noticed an offer for $300 after spending
the requirement. As a loyal chase customer with a mortgage
with chase as well as a bank account and two credit cards
can you please match that offer to my credit card as I
feel I messed up and just missed the better offer. Please
let me know if anything can be done. Thank you so much for
your time and consideration.

Its always better to meet the requirements and then ask 4 match up, most of the time you anyway have to contact them again after spending

I have a secured card for 4 months and been a authorized cardholder for over 2 years...
Called chase and they said that I have to wait at least a year under a secured card.
I am itching to get my first card already!!
Does anyone know if it's really true or something they say....
TIA

It doesn't matter with which bank: with chase it'll never help you getting a long credit history by being an AU
