5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

Manual counting.
I use quickbooks to catagorize all my monthly spending

At the end of every month I import all my CC charges and filter them to categories I created ...

It gets easy after doing it for a while, QB recognized stores and filters it automatically

An interesting happened to me with the Freedom card. I saw the offer a month ago for the 30,000 bonus points and applied, and got approval. Later that day I was talking to my banker at Chase(I speak to him often regarding financials for the business I work for) and asked if he could match the offer. He sent my request to a regular banker, and I did not hear back from her. I called the toll free number and the rep told me I have 10,000 points as a courtesy! Got my statement today - and that is true! Spent less than $30 and got 10,000 points, and 20,000 more when I spend $500 within 93 days! Thank you Chase:)

Neither are listed here...

I see them both there, with a listed caveat next to each that I don't think they could possibly enforce if you're at a store that also carries groceries.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I could swear the page changed when I refreshed it now, hmmm. You're right, I doubt they could enforce the caveat.

I just checked my discover statement and I see they listed one purchase from target in the "merchandise" category,  and another purchase in the "supermarket" category.  Hmmm. . .

I think that's specific to airline tickets.

Saw your post, and I'm wondering what that's about. Something tells me it's about different checkout counters in the store (located in different parts of the store?) classified differently.

IME there are no separate counters in target (except pharmacy)
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

He gave me 10,000 points without spending the $500 so basically free 10,000 points + 20,000 which I will get after I spend the required $500.

It's good that you got matched, but it's still ends up being 30k after you spend 500.

Has anyone tried this website rewards2cash.com they are offering .013/per an unlimited rewards point. looks like a good deal since I don't travel to much so transferring to to airlines or hotels dosent make much sense for me. I would get 30 percent more then from chase cash out plus its better then 2% of limited gift cards. But:
1.  I want to verify if it is legit.
2. curious what Dan or others thought. is this a good deal?
