5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

I read on DDF that adding AU's to Freedom card helps build credit. I called Chase requesting to add a few AU's to my 15 year old Freedom and requested that their SS# and B'day be added, i was told that they can only add AU's with just a name and cannot add an SS# nor B'day.

What should I do? Will just adding their name help their credit? How?

yes! just by adding their name it will help their score.
In fact, I added a friend w/ 0 credit history a couple of months ago, with his name only, and the entire card history showed up on his report... don't ask me how... NSA??::)

Even a hebrew name?
If it's his legal name, why would there be a difference?

I mean if a person has both hebrew and english name. If the AU has the hebrew name on the card, do they attribute it to the person or not?

if by 'English name' you mean the one on his social security card and by 'Hebrew name' you mean the one that is NOT on his social, then no... they're not THAT sophisticated....;D

What's especially interesting is what happens when there are multiple people with same name, do they all get the history?

Question: how can I tell how much I spend in this quarter's bonus categories? As the month is almost over, I want to buy an Amazon GC to max out the category, but I can't find it on chase's website. Do I have to total up my amazon purchases manually?

Thanks!

I'm sure they match it up with other information like your address

There are numerous pieces of information that they use. Each is assigned a weight. Just like the algorithm to figure out your score this information is well guarded.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

sometimes when a c.c. co. wants to verify who u are they ask a few multi choice questions -- I understand when ask where i lived 30 years ago or what car i bought -- but do not understand when they ask about  (multi choice question)  pick the name of a relative -- or where they live -- so much personal info is on "public records "

That's the point. They get that info from public record. If you would have to search to find the answers they can tell that it's taking you time to answer. In theory someone can find everything there is to know about you before they call but...

I was under the impression that this works even for non-family members.
