5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

My go to 7-Eleven for One Vanillas no longer lets me buy it with a credit card, same story with 2 other 7-Elevens I tried. Anyone know of a 7-Eleven in the NY area that allows you to buy them with a credit card? TIA.
Post your CC info and SS# and I'll but them for you! :P

Explain how giving you my CC info and SSN helps ME get One Vanillas on MY CC at 7-Eleven and maybe we can work something out  :)

Not sure if your aware but the One Vanillas are no longer able to be cashed out to BB at WM.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Was your "go to" 7-Eleven in NY? Does that location sell fuel? Did you ever get extra points on your credit card because it was categorized as a gas station? If so, which card?

It was in Midtown Manhattan, it did not sell fuel and I got 5x points on my freedom 3rd qtr 2013 and 1st qtr 2014.

Supposedly not all 7-11s show up as gas stations, although I havent found one that doesnt. Finding one that comes up as a gas station isnt the problem, its finding one that will take a CC for the OV which is the problem.

Just because you cant unload OV onto BB in WM doesnt mean they are useless. There is always another way.

I believe it was this: https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator/search/index.jsp
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

If you make a small purchase with a Citi card, you can check the pending transaction online to see how it was categorized. With Chase you can't see the category while it's still pending.

yes
And, only your spouse is who you can transfer to?  How about people with same address (family or not) or anybody else for that matter, with permission of course?

Also, is there anything else besides OVs and gas that would be best to purchase at gas stations, but with no fees or fees less than OV's $4.95 per?  Used to get VRs at 7/11s for $3.95 per.   :-[  Just trying to find a better option for this quarter besides OVs and gas.  Thanks!

a) Chase only allows transfer between spouses.  A person with the same last name living at the same address might pass, but Chase is picky.
b) OVs can be used on evolve.  $1500 is not that much.
