5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

There are still CC companies that allow joint accounts...
I did say 'most'.
Either way, I couldn't find anyone (close enough to ask) with a cc from a company that does.

I'm sure I can find this somewhere within the 97 pages, but that's a lot of reading. If someone has a freedom card (and no other chase card to transfer to), what can be done with the miles you have on it, if it can't be transferred to airline. Or point me where to look. TIA.

Redeemed for cash back on your statement.
Log in to the Ultimate Rewards site for a few other options. But to get good value, just keep your card open and don't redeem until you or your spouse are ready to apply for Ink or Sapphire.

I'm already an AU on a 20 year old Chase account, but Chase recon said that, they ignore AU.

Is AMEX backdating still an option? I thought they don't do that anymore.
I added my wife on my secured card from capital one and it's backdated.

It doesn't help if the AU is backdated. You would need one of your own cards to get backdates. AFAIK, it's only possible with AMEX.

i spent $500 and no sign up bonus. Is this because I hit the threshold too close to closing? (like SP)

Maybe you can upgrade it to a Sapphire Preferred for a day or so?

They do that? Never heard of upgrading.
I thought of applying for the card but just had the pull from freedom, don't want to accumulate to much.

I guess just wait it out the points are not expiring yet, if this is ur first card then wait @ least 6 months and then apply for it, or ur spouse will also suffice.

If you finshed the spend within 7 days of the statement closing, you will have to wait till the next closing.

Whatever happenes when anyone doesn't pay their bill.
Read the disclosure when adding an AU.
