5% categories for fourth quarter of 2017:
Dept. stores and Walmart

There are three possibilities for how many points are earned. In the following examples, the effective rates are assuming you cash out the points for 1 cent each, but if you can transfer them to Sapphire Preferred or Ink, the effective rate could be much higher.
  • Cardholders without a Chase checking account
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point, an effective rate of 1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points, an effective rate of 5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points, an effective rate of 5%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in older program
1 base point per dollar plus 10% of the base points plus 10 points per transaction for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories.
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 11.1 points, an effective rate of 11.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 61 points, an effective rate of 6.1%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 520 points, an effective rate of 5.2%.
    Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7660 points, an effective rate of 5.11%.
  • Cardholders with a Chase checking account in newer program
1 base point per dollar for all spending. Additional 4 bonus points per dollar for spending up to $1500 in quarterly categories. Annual bonus of 10% of the total of base and bonus points (until February 2016).
Example 1: Spend $1 on a parking meter. Earn 1 point on the next statement and .1 points at year's end, an effective rate of 1.1%.
Example 2: Spend $10 to refill a Metrocard in 2016 Q1. Earn 50 points on the next statement and 5 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 3: Spend $100 to buy a Long Island Rail Road Peak Ten-Trip ticket between zones 1 and 3 in 2016 Q1. Earn 500 points on the next statement and 50 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.
Example 4: Spend $1500 at 7-Eleven in 2016 Q1. Earn 7500 points on the next statement and 750 points at year's end, an effective rate of 5.5%.

Whatever happenes when anyone doesn't pay their bill.
Read the disclosure when adding an AU.
Not the case with Amex.
I try my best :-\

Not the case with Amex.
Amex is the exception. Even with them, its only a secondary liability.
(Which is why they don't pull AU's credit and don't always require an SSN)
No reason it should affect your score the same way it affects the primary holder. It doesn't prove you could make timely monthly payments.

So if I want to build credit, does it help more if I'm an AU on an amex then any other card?

When's the last day of Q4 bonus? I'm already signed up. I have 3 Freedoms now so wanted to make sure I didn't miss out.

AFAIK as I know, it doesn't make a difference.
However, if for example, you're on the phone with Chase Recon, and they're saying that you don't have enough history cause AU's don't count, you could try to explain to them that with AMEX it's different. Maybe it would help. I wouldn't count on it though.

As part of my signup bonus, I was offered 5k for adding an AU and charging the AU card.  Being that with this card the AU has the same car number, ex. and cvv, there is no way to charge the AU card except for a swipe, correct?  I'm in Israel, and would prefer to avoid the forex fee,

On the part of the bill where it shows how many points you earned that month it shows that too.

"Charging the AU card"??
I think it's a purchase in general and not necessarily on the AU card, but I might be wrong.

As part of my signup bonus, I was offered 2.5k for adding an AU and charging the AU card.  Being that with this card the AU has the same car number, ex. and cvv, there is no way to charge the AU card except for a swipe, correct?  I'm in Israel, and would prefer to avoid the forex fee,
FTFY.

Officially it says that you have to make a purchase on the AU card

Earn a $25 Bonus when you add your first authorized user and make your first purchase within this same 3-month period.

But IME the AU bonus always posted even without making a purchase. So just wait and see, if it doesn't post then I guess you'll have to make a purchase on it.

Just swipe it for 1/2 Shekel at a parking meter. The forex fee won't be that high...

3% of 50 Agorot is 1.5 Agorot.
Although, as I said upthread, even that is not necessary.

Thanks guys!

Looking at my reward activity, I think the 2.5k may have posted (now that you mentioned it's only 2.5k.)  But it only shows me activity from 11/23 and nothing earlier.  Any way to see activity further back?
