what is the consensus on 2nd guest bookings in international hotels (Asia) w.r.t trouble during check-in?

I am adding the GOH guest of the 1st room, as 2nd guest in another room as they need 2 rooms. I’m hoping they will let it slide through. I’m thinking to convert 2nd room to GOH if the hotel doesn’t allow check-in at last minute.

Any thoughts / datapoints?

It depends on where in Asia. Some places require the front desk to collect passports of all guests who are staying in the room. I think doing 2nd guest ex-US is asking for trouble, more often than not.
