I just booked a night at Andaz 5th avenue for a family member post wedding. I used my platinum status and am hopeful that I can get him an upgrade. If someone has diamond status:
a) If they book it for me/him, will he get a guaranteed upgrade?
b) Does it cost/take away anything to do that for us?

If it is a paid night and using a DSU is available, I as well as others have some that are being given out.

Find someone who has a DSU, confirm DSU space, transfer your HGP pts to the DSU holder, then have them book a C+P booking for you.

I have enough Hyatt points to do my booking. I would pay someone to use there account for an upgrade. Is that possible?

A confirmed upgrade, known as a DSU (Diamond Suite Upgrade), cannot be used on a points reservation - only on a cash or cash+points reservation. You could transfer your points to someone who has Diamond status and have them then book the stay for you and hope for an upgrade upon checkin/contacting the hotel ahead of time and asking, but not a guaranteed suite upgrade confirmed in advance.

It would technically work, but it could get awkward if your name is in the ressy with 2 other people (none of which is the other guest traveling with you).

I sold to a guy once who had 5 night stay in Hyatt zilara Cancun using 3 accounts. He said it worked no problem...don't know more than that sorry

I recently booked a hyatt night for someone else and called and told them straight up that I am booking for a friend and they didnt seem to mind. it was a paid night though
