you'd transfer them the points needed, and credit card info; then the Diamond member would book the room for you in his/her name (with you added as the second guest) and apply the DSU at the same time. *As long as a DSU is available to be used at that property.

If you want to get guest of honor benefits, you'd have to transfer the points to the status holder.

Otherwise, you can book yourself and a diamond member should be able to apply a DSU to your reservation.

not true a DSU cannot be transferred it must be booked by the diamond members account and he can add you as a guest

I said applied, not transferred. DSUs can't be transferred to another GP account but can be applied to another's reservation.

I second that; you beat me to it. It's non-transferrable; and Hyatt will give you crap if you call to ensure your second guest can check in ok. But it works.

This is not a direct answer to your question, but since you are new to the forum, I just want to point out that Hyatt has 2 relatively nice Category 4 hotels in DC, and you could stay there with an anniversary night which sells for around $100 in this forum. By staying at a Category 4 hotel (without a suite), you would be saving 30,000 points and over $100.00.

no they cannot. applying it to someone else's reservation is the same thing as transferring it. They can only be applied to reservations made by the diamond account

Nor "applied." which is the same as "transferring your DSU to someone else's reservation. Simply put as stated, the Diamond member has to book it the reservation and it'll be under the Diamond members name with a guest added.

The Wiki mentions that completing the diamond challenge gives you four more DSUs. Is that all the person offering their DSU is in it for?

Not accurate information anymore. Hyatt recently matched people (without a challenge) to Diamond, giving them 4 DSUs. People are either giving them away for free because they have no need for them, or because they're hoping to attain enough nights to re-qualify for Diamond for next year.

I have yet to see anyone actually charge a fee for the DSU; and I don't; but as mentioned we are in it for the stay and points credit to help requalify for Diamond status. That should be fee enough.

Not exactly. A reservation can be booked out of one account using C&P, for instance. GP can them add the DSU account GP# and name to the reservation to apply the suite upgrade. The DSU GP# would then get the stay credit.
