Can someone explain why people only want GOH bookings/suite upgrades, rather then being considered additional guests?

Is this because of the risk involved about having your reservation not honored when you’re checking in?

GOH is better for stays outside of the US as it may be risky checking in alone as a second guest without the primary. Some areas want to see passports of everybody staying in the room.

Suite upgrades are guaranteed at the time of booking with Hyatt if a standard suite is available, without if you're just hoping that a suite goes unsold and the hotel is nice enough to upgrade you.
