Yes, through 2014, the Diamond status was instant upon challenge approval.

I had 60 days to stay for 12 nights at Hyatt in order to extend our Diamond status through Feb 2016. B"H last night was the 12th night. Looking forward to the next 14 months of Diamond... The new challenge is great news, because after Oct. 31, nobody knew if they would reinstate it. They DID reinstate it, with the only difference being that the 12 stays need to come first before Diamond status is applied....
