Officially, benefits are in line with status at time of check-in, not booking.

That's why I'm asking if a confirmed suite upgrade would work since it's confirmed beforehand.

Why should a suite upgrade get you anything other than a suite?

For some.reason I thought you were talking about other Diamond benefits. Yes, a confirmed suite is confirmed.

YMMV. In some of their systems it shows the status from reservation time.
