to Use a dsu to get a suite. Also you can sell the points you save to cover the cash part and maybe make a little profit as well

I am a Diamond member and my friend wants to book a hotel (Regency Scottsdale) - Can I book for him using cash, use a suite upgrade, and put him as second guest? What are the risks?

you can probably use two from 1 account and 100k points to get a 6 night stay that would be your best bet. But first find availability before you go crazy trying to see how you will pay for the room.
