Convert Delta amex card into gold card?

I have a Delta amex card and was wondering if it can be converted into an Amex Gold card (or something similar)? the reason i want to convert rather than just apply for a new one is that i have a pretty big line of credit on the Delta card and am afraid that if I cancel the Delta card and apply for the Gold, they probably will start me off at a much lower LOC (based on all the cutting down they have been doing lately) then what i have now.
Does anyone have any input or tips on this?

(btw the reason i want to change is obviously because of the low value of Skymiles these days and I pay a $95 yearly fee for the card, I would rather pay the additional $30 for the amex gold for the MR points which are much more flexible and valuable. I obviously already have the Starwoods cards, this is my backup card once the starwood is maxed)

The AMEX gold card is a charge card which has no credit limit.
You would want to change the Delta card into a credit card, not a charge card.

Dan, what do you suggest I do? Just close the Delta and apply for the gold card, or is there a credit card that would be worth converting to?

convert to any fee-free CREDIT card. (blue, clear, blue cash, blue sky, etc.)

I spoke to an agent and she said that I can only convert to a partner credit card (not a charge card) so I think I will change it to SPG and I will have 2 SPG cards.

it shouldn't need to be partner, you should be able to do (fee-free) amex credit cards, as long as it's credit not charge

That might be true but I think it is still worth paying the $45 annual fee for the SPG card- which one of the fee-free cards have point/reward values as good as the SPG card?

If I book using companion pass and then cancel my delta platinum, is the ticket still valid?

What can Delta Gold personal and business cc be product changed to?Is the only option to  upgrade or downgrade to different Delta cards only?
