No point in turning it off... but when I pass gas I try to turn it off

a gas station that I frequent requests me to turn it off when he takes my cc, when he returns it and once randomly in middle of the fill.. it fairly often sounds like an accusation.. (I've been meaning to tell them to clean thier ears...)

or use a cell phone....it's all on the same warning sign. And while there have been  documented case(s) of cigarettes causes gas station fire(s), there don't appear to be any documented cases of running car engines or mobile phone use causing fires. So to equate idiling engines and cell phone usage with smoking is silly. While we expect no better from the govt, you're a ddfr  . CMIIW

(Especially since all modern fuel pumps have anvapor recovery system and car engines are (usually) in the front , while gas caps (usually) are located at the rear of the vehicle.)
I also turn off my engine but more because I'm not interested in some bored attendant or cop to start hassling me. (True story.... someone I know was under investigation. The investigation was going nowhere and he definitely made sure to stick it in their faces. - stupid, yes I know- anyway, at one point he was observed by one of the investigators, idiling his engine at a gas station near his house  and he ended up with 30 days in jail for that

I do not turn it off.

And I also go back into the car while I'm filling, but make sure to touch the car first before touching/removing the nozzle. Dont want to discharge a static spark when handling the nozzle.
