Purchases at a SPG property while not a guest

Hi all,

Suppose I am taking a stroll on the Tel Aviv beach, and walk into the Sheraton Tel Aviv. I walk up to the bar and order a drink. Two questions:

1) Besides for paying with my SPG Amex card, is there a way to have them link my SPG number to the transaction (like when paying for a stay) and get an additional 2 (or 3, for Gold members) Starpoints per dollar?

2) Is there any way to get the transaction to count as a "stay" toward earning Gold/Platinum status?

Yes, you do earn Starpoints for purchases in a SPG hotel bar or restaurant, just give them your SPG number.
Won't be a stay though.

So I could arrange a meeting of 20 of my friends at a local Starwood hotel bar, have them prepay me, and charge all drinks to my SPG card to earn points?  Seems like a great way to keep in touch with old friends ;)  every week....

In order to get a stay you have to sleep overnight. So bring a sleeping bag and camp out on a sofa
